                                                                                     2011 RALLY

This years rally provided as always a mixture of  surprise and disappointment.

On the positive side the organization for this year went like clockwork.  Overseas

visitors excelled again with the best turn out ever including a party of 12 Viking

look-alikes from Norway.  Again a large number of new vehicles not seen before

including a fantastic turnout by Vassallo Building Group, the annual stalwarts of

Bezzina and Carmelo Vella and a number of new private owners.

One of the downside's would seem having now pushed the rally further into the

year to secure better weather - it made no difference with again the serious threat

of rain and frankly that is all it needs to keep the numbers down.  100 vehicles plus

held on to our usual figures and despite the number of new vehicles many previous

participants failed to turn up this year. There seems a problem in trying to get

everyone there at the same time. However having said that it is now a proven point

that Sunday is the better prospect but the date selection or more importantly my

selection of date overlooked one very important factor.

The month of May (and 2011 in particular due to the considerable civil works

undertaken for Arriva) is of course one of the two months of the year in spring and

autumn when every building and road contractor is working flat out to avoid the

winter rains and the excessive summer temperatures. Such circumstances also led

the Malta Grand Prix to be cancelled and there was also marginally more competition

                       with other events.

Another lesson learnt but whereas I am seldom satisfied due to the high standards I

set no complaints received in fact both the public and the participants made a point

of extending their thanks for another great event now firmly set in the motor

                       enthusiasts annual calendar in Malta.

Watch this website for the 2012 announcement in the coming months.

Many thanks to everyone for their continued commitment and encouraging support.
